Prayers, Prayers, and More Prayers!!

TO: Our OMS Alumni Family

RE: Catherine“Duff” Martynick ‘61

Duff is gravely ill in Taylor Hospital. She, John, and the kids need all of the prayers they can get from Our OMS Alumni Family. Patty, Little Duff, needs our prayers and best wishes as well.

Three years ago this spring “Duff” and I returned to the old neighborhood on a beautiful, sunny, warm day. We toured our old streets and tried to retrieve eleven cents she and her little sister Patty had put in a drain at Shanahan on the last day. Sherlock and Mr. Holmes could not complete the assignment!! She said I talk to everybody…

She purchased a disposable camera (neither of us being camera buffs), and every time I would get out of the car she would yell get back in this car. We laughed until we cried.
It was just one of those meant to be things!! I had her climbing over tombstones in Ghost Town. When I made a U-Turn on Lancaster Avenue she thought I was taking her to the White Horse Tavern for lunch…I said, but Duff look the door is open and you can see the beautiful wood mahogany bar…

Duff and I did not go home eleven cents richer but we did rekindle a deep childhood friendship. Duff is my memory…for me she is “OMS Revisited”!! I need for her to get well soon so we can finish up the details for our Alumni Day Event.

Duff has worked so hard to locate Alumni data and she gets five stars because she did not
miss one Alumni Committee meeting…HELLO!!

I will never forget when my telephone rang…Eileen, its Duff!!...nothing more needed to be said, it was all there in those three little words and they meant everything.

  2. Our Prayers for Duff are working as she has slight improvement on a daily basis. Our
Thanks to Father Otto for that very special
Mass Intention for Duff. Little Duff told the
Nurses at Jefferson Our Prayers from our OMS
Alumni Family have reached Germany. KEEP up
    our good works.

  3. Never forget the power of prayer!! Ever since Fr. Otto offered a Mass for her, Duff has been taking tiny baby steps of progress! It's too early to be overly optimistic, but at least she's not going backward!
We still need prayers for Duff and her family so let's keep it going!

  4. Duff continues Her road toward recovery. Her Family can now communicate with her, but she is unable to speak at present. She is aware of all the Prayers of her OMS Family as far away as Florida, N.C., and Germany. This would not be possible if Duff and I hadn't returned to OMS. Thanks Again Father Otto for that very special intention for Duff at your Saint Ignatius Nursing Home Mass. You're The Best!! NOW, can you pray for a new PORSCHE!!

  5. What A Difference A Day Makes...For Duff, Her Family, Her Friends and Neighbors, Her Classmates, The Entire OMS Alumni Family...It Means Everything!! Duff's first words to Little Duff were,"I'm Back", in typical Duffy Fashion. Duff has many weeks left on her road to recovery...but recovery is the key word. Thank You Again to Father Otto, we could not have done this without You. The Blessings to Duff and for all who have returned to OMS have been many. How about a campaign to send as many Get Well Cards as we can:
    Catherine "Duff" Martynick (Room #3310)
    Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
    111 South 11th Street
    Philadelphia, Pa. 19107

This time she didn't say Eileen...but she did say "It's Duff"...I laughed, I cried, and then I told her of all of the Prayers and Best Wishes that have been sent her way. I also shared the news of Father Otto's Special Blessings to her and his Mass Intention last Tuesday at SI Nursing Home...hours after that Mass and Special Intention we heard nothing but good news. I shared in all of my e-mails to you that I believe with Father Otto and Her OMS Alumni Family we have been on the receiving end of our first "OMS ALUMNI FAMILY MIRACLE"!!
    You Go Duff...

"Not what we say about our Blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our Thanksgiving."
    Thank You To All!!

  8. Hey Guys,

Duff has been moved to a step down unit of ICU. Her Room number has been changed to "#3218". Keep the cards and letters coming, her wall will be filled with all of our Best Wishes. It will mean so much to her as she continues her recovery. Wait until she sees all of the E-mails we have shared over these past few weeks. I took all of our notes on the OMS blog site to her last Tuesday and will do so again this week. When she starts to complain about all of the fuss I will know she is back to being "Our Duff...Our May Queen".
    Hugs,
    EIleen

  12. Friends,

If everything goes according to the plan today, "Duff" will have a new change of address to the Wallingford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She will be one step closer to Home. As soon as her address and room number is set I will let you know all the details...maybe she will even have a phone. I know that she has lots of cards to catch up with and I am sure they will mean so much when she is feeling a little bit better. NOTE: DUFF will be celebrating a birthday on March 23rd...I am sure I shouldn't say which one.
    Hugs To All,
    Eileen

OMS ALUMNI, FRIENDS, AND FAMILY...I know I have said it before, but this time it is for real...Our Duff, Our May Queen is HOME. This Is The Day The Lord Has Made!!

A Special Thanks to All of You who have remembered Duff in your Prayers these long four months...our Prayers have been answered.

When I looked at my phone and "Duff calling" appeared I could not believe it...that is the Power Of Prayer. The first thing she did was to check out our new OMS Alumni Website to read all of the comments from friends. Please send her your comments now before we return to treating her as one of us...she well deserves our thoughts because she fought for the good health she has today.

Again, many thanks for all of your Prayers on Duff's behalf...when you need us, we will be here for you...

The Power of Our Mother Of Sorrows Alumni is Alive and Well. Please stay in touch.
    Hugs To All,
    Eileen

  20. Hi. Just wanted to let Duffy know we are happy in North Carolina to hear of her recovery and being home. We have had you in our thoughts and prayers and missed you on the day of the reunion. I offered my mass and communion for your healing and renewal. When you feel better you must go to Avalon and sit on the 23rd St dock with your hair in large curlers and do a redo of your famous picture of the 1960's.
    ITS A CLASSIC.
Maybe you can post it on this site for all to see. Take care of yourself and be well as soon as you can. Healing and Renewal for you.
Love ya. Eileen Potts Smith, Guest at reunion representing my Mom, Aunt, Grandparents, Fallon St Neighbors and Morrissey Relatives.
It was a blessing. See you soon, I hope
